Summary/Abstract: This paper presents Oswald Spengler as a classical author of the twentieth century, who acquired his name and reputation on the basis of his work The Fall of the West. Spengler's thought was fully developed in this work and all other his works lie in the shadow of this voluminous philosophical-historical work and its unusual influence on imagination and thought of the contemporaries. This paper follows creation and reception of The Fall of the West, exposes basic structure of Spengler's views, mark the most important places of Spengler's biography and establish representative terms of which confirm or deny his thought.
