Summary/Abstract: Egyptian writer Nagib Mahfous, Nobel Prize winner in 1988, with his impressive opus of 36 novels, 16 collections of short stories, 2 collections of sketches and 30 film scenarios, is legitimised as the most prolific Arabic writer. Since the formation of the modern Arabic society began together with the struggle against the colonialism, it is good to know that colonialists, through the native intelligentsia educated in Europe, had strong influence on changes of the society and pubic life. The set up plans affirmed partial values, which in the area of communications meant affirmation of local dialects and abundance of the literary language. The viewpoints of the Orientalists who longed for European domination, were the viewpoints of a wide range of Arabic intelligentsia even long after the liberation of colonialism. In addition to the fact that he is indisputable founder of the novel genre in Arabic literature, Mahfous is also responsible for the affirmation of Arabic literary language. Having been a rare writer who has not used the vernacular, his role in affirmation of Arabic literary language is equal to the role of the most eminent Arabic linguists. Indeed, the fact that this great writer, exceptional stylist and skilled portraitist, has written only in literary language and thus fought for the affirmation of literary language, has brought him the prestige of the most read writer.
