Experiences of Islamic Religious Education in the Territory of the BiH Entity Republika Srpska

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to clarify the position of the course of Islamic Religious Education in the educational system of the Republika Srpska (RS), and the position of teachers and students attending Islamic Religious Education classes in the RS. The paper explores the methods of teaching, legal regulations, and the challenges faced by teachers in their work. The Bosniak Muslim community in Republika Srpska, the smaller entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, faces assimilation, making the role and purpose of Islamic Religious Education, and consequently the role of teachers in this area, exceptionally important. Recognizing that the role of religious education teachers in the RS is not limited to teaching faith and religious principles, religious education teachers consciously undertake the obligation to compensate for the knowledge that children lack concerning their identity, culture, tradition, and history. This paper presents the experiences of a certain number of religious education teachers across the RS, providing an authentic portrayal of the position of Islamic Religious Education in the education system of the RS.
