Summary/Abstract: The paper provides an overview of the position of religious education through a brief review of the Law on Education in Primary and Secondary Schools and Preschool Institutions of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, as well as the number of students attending religious education and the number of religious educators. The paper addresses the fol-lowing topics: the role of religious educators in student development, challenges faced by students’ families, and recognizing religious educators as trust-ed individuals. A special section of the paper is dedicated to the issue of identity, types of identity, the importance of understanding identity, the building of national identity, fundamental characteristics of identity, and presenting the best aspects of identity in science, culture, art, sports, etc. The paper briefly touches on the Interreligious Council, the current interreligious cooperation in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, and plans and ideas for improving this cooperation in the future. The final sections of the paper focus on teacher education, strengthening the competencies of the teaching staff, developing digital literacy, lifelong learning, skills, and other capabilities of teachers.
