Summary/Abstract: The introductory part of the paper expands on the return to religions, and the return to the sacred in the West in the 1960s. Significant changes in the attitude towards religion in Bosnia and Herzegovina took place after the socio-political changes of the 1990s. One result of these changes is the introduction of religious education in schools. The author highlights the process of introducing religious education into schools in the Tuzla-Podrinje Canton, Posavina Canton, Brčko District of BiH, and schools in the BiH entity of RS. Special emphasis is placed on explaining the status of the subject of Islamic religious education in primary and secondary schools, the organization of Islamic religious education from the time of its introduction to the present, challenges, and ways of overcoming staffing deficits, i.e., pro-filing the religious education teaching staff. The paper points out the challenges and difficulties in implementing Islamic religious education and ways to overcome them.
