Summary/Abstract: Dialoghi con Leucò by Cesare Pavese is a particular example of Greek myths rewriting, since the mythical background tightly links with the author’s philosophical-existential concept. The seventh dialogue, called La belva (The Beast), a prime example of fusion of bestiality, humanity and divinity, which oppresses men, is about Endemione and the Moon myth: the female character has the seductive qualities of a woman, the unapproachableness of a goddess and the destroying strength of a beast. A micro-analysis of the dialogue will reveal the philosophical dimension, which is beneath the whole book, inspected through the concept of “becoming” by G. Deleuze: the man, aiming continuously to a condition he doesn’t belong to, is overturned with the awareness of his being finite and with his fate of death, though. Neverthless, a way out is possible: the tale.
