Summary/Abstract: Luis de Ávila’s writing Commentaries on the war in Germany under Charles V in the years 1546 and 1547 is one of the most widely recognized and read Spanish historical works, which fundamentally influenced not only the narrative of the war against the Protestants, but also defined the image of the emperor until the 19th century. Focused on the historical work of Luis de Ávila, the study intends to show how, after the victorious Schmalkaldic War, Charles V and his immediate environment consciously shaped the narrative about the series of events. In addition to the biography of the author, the circumstances of the creation of the historical work, translated into many languages, intended to influence the public, its publication history, as well as its contemporaneous resonance are discussed. All of these are good examples of how the emperor and his entourage used the public opinion-forming possibilities inherent in the printed text, at the same time the multilingual, multi-continental and fragmented monarchy of Charles V emerges. At the end of the study, a short excerpt from Ávila’s work can be read.
