Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to explore the way in which the long stay of the Empress Elizabeth at Pest-Buda in the summer of 1866 emerged as a prime part of her Hungarian cult already in her lifetime. It seeks for the possible influences behind this process, while trying to reconstruct the later assessment of her activities at that time, as well as to uncover the real events on which her later the legend-building was based. Alongside presenting the stay of the Empress in Hungary, the paper also aims to explore the mythization of that stay.
