Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses and comprehensively identifies the biological and social factors that promote and constrain the development of young adults. According to the study, as many as 35% of medical and health science students are at high risk of exposure to psychosocial stress due to high academic workload and financial burden. Students cope with high levels of stress by smoking more cigarettes and taking anti-stress medication. Targeted social support in the Republic of Lithuania should be aimed at medical and health science students, especially women, who may not be able to manage psychological distress.
