Summary/Abstract: In recent years at European level, there has been a growing interest in women holding the highest public office, that of Head of State or Prime Minister. The present study analyses this situation, seeking to validate the principle of equal opportunities between women and men, regulated in international legislation. To this end, several constitutions of European countries are analysed in order to find out what the legislation of those countries provides for the possibility of both women and men holding these positions. The research methodology will also involve combining theory and practice, giving examples of cases where women occupy the highest positions in the executive branch.the protection of individual rights within the European Union.
