Summary/Abstract: The health care system in Poland depends, among others, on economic conditions and the amount of financial outlays. Health care is treated as one of the economic goods. It has an uncertain and unlimited demand. It requires quite high financial outlays, because the state is the guarantor of health care for every citizen. Therefore, health care systems are being transformed so that meet the requirements of the implemented state health policy in the best possible way. This article presents an analysis of health expenditure as a share in GDP on the example of Poland in relation to other countries covered by the analysis, including the report “Index of Sustainable Development of Health Care Systems 2019 and Multiple Sclerosis 2019”, OECD data and data contained in amendments to legal acts concerning the public sector, including health protection and forecasts of government plans in the area of the state health policy, including the state’s long-term financial plan for 2023–2026.The aim of the paper is to analyze the health care expenditures in Poland together with the assessment of the situation and to present the conclusions resulting from the data analysis, which focus primarily on the need to increase the financing of the health care system in Poland, because the slowdown in GDP growth currently assumed by the Ministry of Finance the current level of access to medicines and medical services can be considered difficult to maintain. The system is already considered inefficient due to the inability to cover all related costs with the basic operating activity of medical entities in the field of providing health services.
