Summary/Abstract: In our country, little attention has been paid to the secondary level of music education, even though it is not only a transition between primary and higher education but also a predictive force for the future of music education. In our research, we investigated the factors influencing career choice, professional motivation factors and students’ perceptions of the ideal music teacher in a high school specialising in music (N = 22). In the opinion of the students, musicians are best characterised by perseverance, humility and diligence, and music is a means of self-expression, providing relaxation, serenity, and a sense of refuge.
