Summary/Abstract: The article focuses its attention on the Prefaces to the months of September and of March included within two collections of hagiographies and other texts intended for individual readings by believers. The Prefaces contained within the impressingly vast collection of the 16th c. known as The Great Reading Menaia are by an anonymous author. The other collection of hagiographies, chronologically situated one century later, is by the Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov. The purpose of the author is to analyse these texts, firstly as sources for the question of the two chronological styles considered from an ecclesiastical viewpoint, and secondly from a terminological perspective and as works of a polemical nature.
