Summary/Abstract: The author of this paper, after having briefly mentioned Sufflay’s main contributions in albanology, dwells upon his monograph "Die Biologie des albanischen Volksstammes", published in “Ungarische Rundschau” (1916). Sufflay therein, after having mentioned the various opinions expressed so far about the origin of the Albanian people, analyses the various, historical and linguistic aspects, of the problem under discussion. According to his opinion, the thesis that the Albanians are descended from the ancient Illyrians, is historically and linguistically grounded. He admits, however, that in Albanian there is also a Thrakish element due to the immigration of certain Thracian tribes to the west. In his monograph Sufflay treats also some other questions, including that about the former and the present national name of the Albanians.
