Summary/Abstract: The judge has a special role and functions to fulfill in the society. Analyzing its personal status from the point of view of a disciplinary responsibility, it can be stated that the deeds (actions) for which he/she is responsible have not changed since the between – war period. Honesty, feeling of justice and dignity theoretically have always been considered as features of fundamental importance. The paper analyses the concept of “offence to judge’s dignity” which is one of the basis of disciplinary responsibility in three different epochs, that is between – war period, the Polish Peoples Republic period, a post – 1989 period, and, additionally, it focuses on selected fragments of contemporary disciplinary judicial decisions. In conclusion the paper states that although the grounds of disciplinary responsibility remained unchanged, in all epochs which have been compared – a judge has always been held responsibility for “offence to judge’s dignity”. In legal practice such behaviors were classified as a violation of this principle, and there had various interpretations in different epochs.
