Summary/Abstract: Based on stylistic attribution and documentary data, the article distin-guishes between the work of the icon painters Ioan Popovich from the town of Elena and Ioan Popnikolov from Gabrovo. Until now, these works were known to science mainly under the name of the master from Elena. Several new works are also pointed out which should be attributed to the hand of Ioan Popnikolov from Gabrovo. Some errors in the literature concerning the icons of the two icon painters are also corrected.
