Summary/Abstract: The goal of our research is the relationship between literary criticism at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries, according to one of the most prominent poets of Serbian modernity, therefore, from a certain time distance, which confirms that Sima Pandurović, with his symbolic verses imbued with intel- lectualism, also belongs to the future, i.e. the present moment. Through the wider political, literary, and social contexts, we deal with some of the most significant analyzes of Pandurović’s mischief, embodied in works by Miroslav Egerić, Bojana Stojanović Pantović, Jovan Delić, Predrag Petrović, Aleksandar Bošković and Milivoj Nenin. Pessimism imbued with true emotion, elements of expressionism, poetics of the ugly and irrationalism, new sensibility, the category of madness, are just some of Pandurović’s characteristic creations, which showed that the mentioned poet, with a certain part of his opus, was a forerunner of expressionism, foreshadowed the avant-garde, and was therefore deservedly rehabilitated as a poet decades later.
