Summary/Abstract: This article aims to present vineyards as a specific form of urban agriculture, with particular emphasis on their spatial and functional dimensions. The considerations contained in the text concern a case study – Vienna, called “the king of urban viticulture”. Based on the spatial and functional analysis of the data provided by the Austrian Wine Marketing Board, as well as field observations carried out in April 2022, the main characteristics of the spatial distribution of vineyards in the urban space, the structure of production, as well as the functions they perform are determined. The conducted research indicates the multifunctionality of viticulture and winemaking in Vienna, which is conducive to its preservation in the city space. In addition to the production function, recreational, tourist, landscape and cultural functions being an expression of the city’s long wine tradition, are also particularly important.
