Summary/Abstract: The research on stylistic musical characteristics within the ritual performance genres has begun with the crucial connection between the singer’s voice and the singer’s speech. We are exploring this connection through the theory of the French semiotician and literature critic Ronald Barthеs, particularly his influential essay “The Grain of the Voice” and the phenomenology of singing. Vocal research in the region of Radoviš and the village of Injevo represents a huge portion of the literature of Macedonian ethnomusicology, and it is the subject of this study. Through the typology of the songs, with exclamation/chant songs, as well as the regional division of musical-dialect groups and subgroups, researchers receive knowledge on the nuances of the musical singing style and performance of the ritual sub-genre of that particular region. Our research observes the transition of the songs sanged in the 70s of the XX century and today’s songs (audio and video production) in the media, from the Radoviš region, the village of Injevo. This study is trying to explain the way the singing style was formed within the ritual performance genres of the Radoviš area, the village of Injevo. My exact interest lies in the segment of singing which is only recognized by listening to the singing performance. The singing of the group “Gajda” from Injevo was the subject of this paper. The group was formed by Slobotka-Bota Miteva, Gina Gorgieva and Stojna Ristova, as well as field materials from “Marko Cepenkov” Institute of Folklore’s Archive.
