Counterintelligence activities against an attempted coup organized be the armed forces

Summary/Abstract: The study examines the criminal law characteristics of the crime of treason, but also the specifics regarding operationally interesting persons, objects and indicators for the preparation of an attempted coup in the armed forces. Attention is paid to the indicators and actions of foreign intelligence services in organizing a coup attempt, as well as to the participation of representatives of private military companies. Specific actions of the counterintelligence body with a view to counteracting a coup attempt are presented. Three examples of coup attempts in Europe from the last 10 years are examined, based on which conclusions are drawn and practical indicators usable in the work of the military CI service are presented.
