THE EFFECT OF RELIGIOUS SERVICES ON SOCIAL LIFE: THE CASE OF KAYSERİ

Summary/Abstract: In this study, the religious services carried out by the Religious Affairs Directorate of Kayseri (including county directorates) which is an affiliate of the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Turkish Republic were evaluated. The services performed by the Religious Affairs Directorate were classified into two main categories: the services outside mosque and the services inside mosque. The services inside mosque consist of praying and sermon. The services outside mosque consist of hajj-umrah organizations, fatwa, guidance to Islam, Quran courses and funeral services. Aside from these services, social and cultural activities such as television programs, conferences, panels, and symposiums are among the services offered outside mosque. In the evaluation, it was found that Kayseri had an important place on agenda with its many features. This was mainly due to the share of the services carried out by the Religious Affairs Directorate of Kayseri.
