Summary/Abstract: The article presents the life and activities of Zygmunt Dukalski (1866-1940) – a doctor with passion, amateur archaeologist, donor of museum collections and promoter of regional heritage protection. The study is also an important contribution to building the narrative about the society of Stawiszyn from the interwar period. The hero of these reflections worked to improve the quality of life of the Stawiszyn community. He was the initiator of the establishment of several organizations and co-orga- nizer of cultural events that greatly revived life in the provincial town. He became for the inhabitants of the city and the surrounding area not only an authority in the field of medicine, but a person who enjoyed great social trust. He was also a precursor of the protection of monuments in the Stawiszyn region and a regionalist, whose research became the starting point for contemporary researchers of the history of Stawiszyn. It is to him that we owe the first studies of the history of this small town.
