Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of alcohol consumption by the January insurgents fighting in Eastern Greater Poland and on the border of Wielkopolska and Kujawy. The author writes about the scale of this phenomenon and what its causes were, why the volunteers drank and what they most willingly consumed, who supplied them with alcohol and how the insurgent authorities reacted to drinking. The text also shows the numerous functions of alcohol in the life of the insurgents – from raising morale during the fight to faith in its healing power.
