Summary/Abstract: The repertoire of Polish popular music abounds in a number of borrowings and references to music already created – from the great masters to music of (folk) origins. The title of this article shows the aim of these considerations, which is to indicate the educational potential inherent in popular music, and which can lead the ‘amateur listener’ (i.e. a person not musically educated) to a repertoire that is not so popular today and only to be heard in philharmonic halls. This is done with the help of a utilitarian musical analysis, i.e. a simple description of the music, revealing its origins. One necessary link in this process of finding the little-known original is the professional guide, who can perform the act of musical awareness before the presentation of music and just after listening to it. The key element of this process is the fascination with popular compositions as expressed by amateur recipients in the simplest of words (e.g. on social media, in comments on the YouTube platform). This article is based on two compositions from the repertoires of Anna Maria Jopek (the song “Uwoż mamo” [Weigh it, mom] from the album Polanna) and Natalia Kukulska (the song “Pod powieką” [Under the eyelid] from the album Czułe struny [Tender strings]).
