Critical Revue of the literature on the recycling

Summary/Abstract: The article discusses various types of artistic activities involving the processing of variouscultural products (linguistic messages, literary texts, artworks, photographs, films, musical works, etc.),which are treated as used material – a kind of waste – and reintroduced into cultural circulation in a newform and function. Such practices can be interpreted within the conceptual framework offered by themetaphor of recycling. The author reviews theoretical works analyzing this phenomenon in its variousmanifestations. He considers the status of recycled works (questions of authorship and functions) andstresses the place of such practices in the process of cultural development.
