Aspects regarding the contribution and definition of a manner of arranging and harmonizing folk choral music of conductor George Vancu

Summary/Abstract: The conductor, arranger, orchestrator and composer George Vancu had a special contribution on our folklore, through his collections that he made both in the Banat area and in the area of Maramureș and Transylvania. The unique exposition of the simplicity and traditional characters of the popular pieces in the choirs and orchestras for which he made these arrangements and orchestrations (conducting them with the greatest skill), are among the best made in the country. His works have a different sound, which are made and highlighted by fully preserving the archaic character, without altering them. George Vancu managed to achieve a harmonization that does not distort the naturalness of the popular melodic line, thus remaining preserved in its authentic, original form, as it was collected. George Vancu was one of the most representative personalities of Romanian folklore, a complex personality, inexhaustible for over 40 years in terms of choral and instrumental arrangements.
