Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to explore the vision of freedom in the theological reflection of St. Cyril of Alexandria and Saint Augustine. For St. Cyril of Alexandria the development of the theme of human freedom takes place in the context of a Christological and pneumatologically discourse. Augustine's effort to clarify the problem of freedom has, in general terms, a double direction. First, he polemicizes with Manichaeism, in which he combats it by the idea of free will as the cause of evil. At this stage, his theological construction is orthodox, similar to that of the Eastern Fathers. The second stage, however, puts him in the opposite difficulty. He has to fight against the very idea of freedom.
