Summary/Abstract: Modernist urban development is characterized primarily by the segregation of functions, and thus, their dispersion and increased car dependency. It significantly differs from the model of functioning of cities with traditional urbanism, characterized by mixed functions and density. The article focuses on the modernist urban development, due to its influence on the economics of public spaces, and on the analysis of selected public spaces from the specified in “The Study of Conditions and Directions of Spatial Development” [„Studium uwarunkowań i kierunków zagospodarowania miasta”], using quantitative methods. The specific elements of public spaces are specified on the presented theoretical basis, the state of development of the selected spaces is assessed and measured using the adopted indicators.
