Summary/Abstract: The article describes two important issues, semantics and verbal syntax in Polish dialects. The relationship between these levels of language has been emphasized in historical and contemporary studies. It is very difficult to decide which verbs are polysemic, and which are only semantic variants of the same lexeme. Therefore, attempts have been made to investi- gate the extent to which the syntactic criterion may prove useful in solving the problem of verbal polysemy in dialects. Here, we deal with folk vocabulary, often entangled in an individual sentence and situational context. The semantic and syntactic analyses were performed on ambiguous verbs taken from Mieczysław Szymczak’s dialect dictionary.
