Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the proceedings of the Prague purging committee which tried all cases of the personal purge among the public servants in 1946-1947. The purge in the state administration apparatus was considered to be a part of the putting up with the previous regime and German occupation. According to the understanding after the war, the state officials were supposed to have a bigger responsibility towards the state and the nation, therefore their activities during the time of German oppression were subject of the committee’s interest. On October 4th 1945 the president of the Republic issued a decree pertaining to the purging committees, established at the level of district and land national committees, to look into the public servants’ behaviour and decide whether they violated their oath of loyalty to the Czechoslovak Republic, or transgressed against the so called national honour. Based on the analysis of relevant paragraphs of the purging committee decree, the author clarifies procedural steps of the committee which was established at Land National Committee in Prague and explains the activities of the president and of the committee members. The paper brings the final results of the Prague committee and compares them with the results of other purging boards in the Czech lands. The committee proceedings were usually thorough and the cases were adjudicated in a lenient manner. A considerable number of complaints and notifications were not even tried due to their negligible gravity, in more than a half of all decisions, the committee acquitted the accused public servants of all wrongdoing, and those who were found guilty were sentenced mostly to mild punishments.
