Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to examine the motif of “Russian longing” in thesung poetry of Alexander Bashlyakov. The analysis of selected texts of the poet allowsus to note that the motif of longing in Bashlyakov’s works, on the one hand, is associatedwith physical and metaphysical dissatisfaction, and on the other hand, can be coupled withimportant components of national identity (Russian character and nature). Longing, beingoften an unavoidable (sometimes not explicitly expressed) component of the emotionalmood of the lyrical subject. Has a peculiar ambivalence. Among other things, it consists inthe fact that, disregarding the negative connotations, longing can contribute to the realiza-tion of the finiteness of any path, thus awakening the soul.
