Summary/Abstract: The anthropic principle, which emphasizes the role of the human observer in the observation of the universe, is accepted here as the fundamental principle operatingwithin the ‘human condition’ (conditio humana, CH). A four-step model of CH is postulatedhere. The model comprises a synergy of the following steps/degrees: sensing, the anthropicprinciple, language, and sources of natural language feeding/strengthening. The model isassumed to be relevant in the description and assessment of the following components ofthe ecological approach to natural language: natural language resources, natural languageresource management, communicative wellbeing, degree of conservation of natural language resources in a particular natural language habitat, and ecological support for the life of natural language.
