Summary/Abstract: At the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Transylvania, under the rule of Austria-Hungary, faced ethnic and cultural tensions. The Transylvania Memorandum, drawn up in 1892, was a petition signed by the Romanian elites, requesting the recognition of the rights and identity of the Romanians.Lawyer Dr. Amos Frâncu was the leader of the defense team in the Memorandum process, fighting for the cultural and political rights of Romanians. The legislative context and the Dualist Pact of 1867 influenced the evolution of the legal system. The press and international public opinion played a crucial role in supporting the cause of the memorandum. The trial had strong worldwide repercussions, and the subsequent pardon of the memorandum signers was influenced by diplomatic and international pressure.Amos Frâncu was also the defender of the motz people, being specialized in the typical political processes of his time. He defended different professional categories from priests, to simple unlettered people, but also citizens of the country who affirmed their national creeds, like the young ladies from Sibiu, as the journalists from Familia and the Literary Universe called them.
