Summary/Abstract: The present letter, addressed to the historian Oliver Jens Schmitt, refutes the opinions formulated by the Austrian historian in the volume The State Church or the Church in the State? A history of the Romanian Orthodox Church: 1918-2023. The book, bearing the mark of ideology, is full of incriminating and impulsive generalizations about an institution. The volume, in its internal fabric, is like a “moral tribunal” of Romanian history, in which the main defendant is the Romanian Orthodox Church.
