Summary/Abstract: Union of Czechoslovak Journalists, as a loyal follower of Czechoslovak Communist Party policy, reacted with restrain to the first reform attempt from the January 1968. First after overcoming the barrier of fear, thoroughly built by the totalitarian regime, the journalists started to formulate demands to support the reform movement and improve their reputation at the public. The joint meeting of central committees of Union of Czechoslovak Journalists and Union of Slovak Journalists, that took place on March 19 and 20, 1968, in Brno, generalised several essential topics from a diverse opinion spectre. An edited extract from stenographic minutes of the proceedings, part of the Journalist Syndicate Archive at the National Archives, has been made accessible for a wide range of readers for the first time.
