Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of a pilot study relating to the level of social competences during the first years of socio-vocational adaptation of teachers. The study poses the following research problems: What level of social competence do teachers have at the professional start? Do and what variables affect the level of social competence? What level of social competence do teachers represent in each category (in intimate situations, social exposure, assertiveness)? The study used the survey method with the standardized tool – Social Competence Questionnaire by Anna Matczak. The study group included 314 teachers from various types of schools and institutions. The survey did not yield a statistically significant result against the variable of seniority, but only against the place of residence. The study describes the essence of creating teacher communities and building social groups based on cooperation and trust.
