Summary/Abstract: Konrad Balder Schäuffelen (1929–2013) was intensively active as a translator of Czech poetry into German during a relatively short period between 1965 and 1971 alongside his profession as a medical doctor and his own poetic and artistic activities. Using the concept of agency in translation developed in translatology, this paper examines Schäuffelen’s socio‑biography, relates his translation activity to his other activities and explains the importance of Schäuffelen’s personal network for his translation activity as well has his motivations for translating poetry from Czech to German.
