Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the understanding of history, historicity and national myths in the work of Czech poet and prose writer Julius Zeyer, especially in his poem cycle Vyšehrad that glorifies and poetologically potentiates the national history of Bohemia. The genesis of the poem cycle is analyzed against the backdrop of the historicism debates and aesthetics in the Bohemian Lands. In this context, the translation by Otilie Malybrok‑Stieler is discussed. Not only is the quality of the translation addressed, but also the specific role of women as translators.
