Summary/Abstract: This article examines the use of a series of prepositional phrases, namely , in the legal language of Spanish-speaking countries. Th e objective of this study is to demonstrate that legal Spanish is a specialty language with numerous distinctive features all of which are diatopically marked. To this end, a corpus made up of constitutional texts from twenty Spanish-speaking countries will be analyzed by means of textual analysis tools (Sketch Engine and WordSmith Tools). Various uses of the prepositional phrases in question will be compared to highlight the problem of pluricentrism in legal Spanish. Th ese constructions, which show a high or intermediate degree of fi xation in the general language, seem to be used in a less stable way in a legal context, frequently presenting variation in their structure and deviating from the standard norm. Th e conclusions drawn from this study constitute a valuable starting point towards a systematic description of the geolectal modalities of the legal Spanish language with a view to its application in the practice and didactics of translation.
