Summary/Abstract: The relations between the newly established Yugoslavia and Bulgaria after September 9, 1944, were significantly influenced by the amicable relations between the Communist parties of both states. A primary objective of the Bulgarian Communist Party after this date was to cultivate an international antifascist image and disassociate itself from any affiliation with Germany. Consequently, the new Bulgarian government initiated negotiations with the Yugoslav government, with one of the pivotal issues being the status of Pirin Macedonia. Both sides proposed several draft agreements for a potential federation between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria, each of which included provisions addressing the future of Pirin Macedonia and its potential unification with the Democratic Federal Macedonia, one of the republics within the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia.
