CONTRIBUTION TO ECONOMIC AND TRADE HISTORY: MACEDONIAN CITIES’ PRODUCTS AT THE 1873 VIENNA FAIR

Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to provide an overview of the trade and economic relations of the Skopje Sanjak and its participation in the 1873 Vienna fair. It offers a comprehensive look at the trade activities within the cities of the sanjak and conducts an analysis of agricultural and industrial products originating from various locations within the sanjak, considering their types and quality. In conclusion, the commercial and trade activities within the Skopje Sanjak reached a significantly high level, as evidenced by the sanjak’s annual income. The majority of the population was engaged in agriculture, and the agricultural products not only fulfilled the sanjak’s requirements but also accounted for more than half of the annual agricultural production sold beyond the sanjak’s borders, primarily in exchange for essential and necessary commodities.
