Summary/Abstract: The Union for Collaboration with the Army (Svaz pro spolupráci s armádou – Svazarm) represented a specific organisation of the Communist type that provided for the Czechoslovak People’s Army some of its requirements and acted as a mediator for a range of leisure time activities that could be carried out in an organised form only under the patronage of the Svazarm. Given the example of the district organisation in Vyškov during the 1970s and 1980s, actual leisure time activities are presented that the Svazarm members could devote themselves to, as well as the preparation of recruits for the compulsory military service and civil protection agenda. The attention was paid to the development of the union membership that grew into a mass scale in the 1980s, however, at the same time, a frequent phenomenon of the formal, inactive membership was pointed out. Specific fields are outlined – such as relation to the district committee of Svazarm in Vyškov, material provision for the union activities that was inadequate in all fields, the collaboration with authorities and other social organisations, and examples for political education aspect of activities. The description of this district organisation agenda shows that a number of Svazarm activities had no military character, as this was the case with modelling, electroacustics and video making. An important characteristic during this period was the focus on the school youth, since many groups were intended for them. In conclusion, it can be said that Svazarm united mostly people interested in the specific activities, as, within the Svazarm organisation, it was one of few legal form of collective fostering of such hobbies. A part of membership, therefore, received the Svazarm dissolution as an opportunity for an independent activity
