Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to clarify the basic evolution tendencies in the women’s movement in Moravia after 1945 and to capture the specifics of the development in Moravia in contrast to Bohemia. During a short period of 1945–1952, three organisations changed in the lead of the women’s movement – the Council of Czechoslovak Women, the Council of Women and the Czechoslovak Union of Women. Their short existence was related to the society climate in the middle of searching for the new course of Czechoslovakia after war. The development of the women’s movement in Moravia was different from that in Bohemia due to the existence of two associations from the interwar period. Thanks to personal contacts among representatives of women’s associations in Moravia, the mutual relations were not so tense as they were in Prague. In 1945–1948, the women’s movement in Moravia managed to achieve the biggest autonomy possible. The subversive activities of Communist members culminated in the February events in 1948, when the Council of Czechoslovak Women was transformed into the Council of Women cleansed by the Action Committees. It worked further on in the manner of its predecessor, under strong influence of the Communist Party, though, that manifested itself in the gradual dissolution of all women association. This trend culminated by the creation of the Czechoslovak Union of Women, a mass organisation uniting women from Czech Lands and Slovakia, that did not fulfil any “women’s” tasks, but worked only in the construction, peace and education activities. The Moravian Main Office was substituted by Regional Committees after 1948, their tasks from then on were societal such as the celebrations of Women’s Day, women’s recruitment campaigns, and completely erased all differences between Moravia and Bohemia.
