Summary/Abstract: In 1938, the system of unitary agricultural councils was put on the national basis. By force of the Governmental decree Nr. 294/1942 Coll., the agricultural councils were abolished and substituted by a new Union of Agriculture and Forestry (Verband für Land - und Forstwirtschaft für Böhmen und Mähren). After the end of the war, the spontaneous cleansing of the Union from Nazi collaborators and traitors took place, the Union was gradually put into liquidation. A speedy authorisation of its successor body – Unified Union of Czechoslovak Farmers (JSČZ) – was generally expected. The representatives of the Union of Agriculture and Forestry announced its abolition as of December 31, 1945, and the JSČZ was proclaimed its sui juris successor body. Despite its vague legal status, the JSČZ published a number of periodicals, newspapers, it had a representative in the Constituent National Assembly of Czechoslovakia and worked on the local, district, and state-wide level. This status was first confirmed by the law on august 15, 1947, when the preliminary committee of the JSČZ was being put together, yet, this started working only at the beginning of the year 1948 when it took over the actual management of the union. The central bodies of the union were the central congress, the central committee, the union board, and the central trade unions of production branches. In 1948, the new delimitation of political tasks was approved and it was decided to incorporate interest organisations from the field of agriculture and forestry into JSČZ. The fulfilment of these tasks was, however, put into question by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia that decided, at the beginning of the year, about the voluntary dissolution of the union. The general public was informed about the voluntary dissolution on March, 15, 1952.
