Summary/Abstract: There are countries where censorship is officially declared by a censorship law, but there are others where this law is missing (even officially denied as it was in Hungary), yet censorship is still present in a hidden form. To avoid any kind of trouble as a consequence of breaching a non-existent law, self-censorship is used as an effective form of prevention. The paper will try to demonstrate that selfcensorship in literary translation works in various ways and on many different levels.
