Summary/Abstract: The article unearths unknown biography of Maria Rundo (later Borowska) during andright after the Second World War. Maria Rundo was the model for Tadeusz Borowski’sshort story “A Farewell to Maria.” The article is based on source materials found in theLund University Library Archives; primarily on the 1946 “Witness Interview Protocol”with Maria Rundo, meaning a transcript of her testimony given before the staff of PolskiInstytut Źródeł (Polish Source Institute; PLŹ) and deposited in the PIŹ archives in Lund.On the basis of this and other documents from the PLŹ archive – and the personal dossierof Zygmunt Łakociński, the founder of PIŹ – the article reconstructs the period of MariaRundo’s imprisonment in the Pawiak Prison in Warsaw, in concentration camps, andduring her refugee stay in Sweden.
