Summary/Abstract: The article presents Wojciech Śmieja’s literary studies on masculinities in the Polishtwentieth and twenty-first centuries literature, especially focusing on Śmieja’s bookNie/podległości i transformacje. Szkice o stuleciu męskiego niepokoju 1918–2018 (In/Dependencies and Transformations: On the Century of Male Disquiet: 1918–2018). Thearticle traces the evolution of methodological theories applied by Śmieja to literarystudies on masculinities – from gay studies through gender and queer theory to men’s/masculinity studies – while asking about the further development of this subdiscipline.
