Summary/Abstract: The article critically analyzes theses on the dominance of the present in contemporarychronotype. I analyze the theories of A. Assmann, H. U. Gumbrecht, A. Huyssen, F. Hartog, and F. Fukuyama to show that – although some chronotype change is indeed currentlyhappening – it is somewhat simplistic to describe the contemporary historical regimeas presentist. Thus, I propose a new take on the relationship between the dominance ofthe present and the alleged disappearance of the future from the humanities. I do so byindicating the theoretical importance of specific categories, such as catastrophe, which– counter-intuitively – are directed at the present and the future to the same extent.
