Summary/Abstract: We suggest applying cognitive and semiological approach while studying inner form of the phraseological unit. This approach addresses to the interaction of two cognitive types of the formation of phraseological units, double reference (double indirectly-derived representation of knowledge): primary – semiological and secondary – semantic objectivism. Primary objectivism is connected with the formation of the inner form – the initial point of the derivation of the phraseological unit and indirectly-derived representation of knowledge – with the final point of the formation of phraseological meaning. Th e inner form of the phraseological unit is qualified as cognitive and semiological category containing the synergy of the nominated situation’s dominant characteristics in linguistic consciousness.
