Summary/Abstract: This study aims to show main streams of thinking in Renaissance political theories and to stress the exclusive character of Renaissance political thinking. In this period political science separated from philosophy and launched off its own existence. While in political science this was, as well as in the development of general education and knowledge, a period of rapid increase, in philosophy this is a more or less average period. Probably the most important figure of Renaissance political thinking was the diplomat born in Florence, Niccolò Machiavelli. He and his work The Prince became immortal both for political theory and practice. Machiavelli showed here the real face of power and the way to seizing it successfully without any moral regards. Thus, he became one of the major theorists of so-called political realism. His own political target was idealistic, though - to achieve the re-unification of Italy, which was at that time divided into tens of separate small states.
